Volkswagen up! Test Drive

Volkswagen describes the up! as a small car that makes a big impact. It’s probably one of the better looking cars in its class, the back of the car is classier than the Citroen C1 and the Peugot 107. It is supposed to be a modern interpretation of the classic Volkswagen design, and it certainly achieves this.
At just 3.54 metres long and 1.64 metres wide, this is one of the smallest cars you can get, but it manages to feel spacious inside. You can lease the Volkswagen up! from just £92 a month plus VAT.
If you are looking for a city car to get you around town then the up! is a fantastic choice. It navigates around town with easy and the power in the lower gears is pretty good. You will find yourself nipping in between cars with ease.
The acceleration at low speeds is impressive for a car with a 1 litre engine. This is the perfect car for short journeys, driving around cities and getting into tight parking spots.
It does the job on the motorway, producing a comfortable ride once you get up to speed. The up! probably isn’t the best choice for people who do a lot of motorway driving rather than city driving.
It performs perfectly well on faster roads but if you prefer a quicker drive you may find joining the carriageway and change lanes a little slow. It takes around 14 seconds to reach 62.8 miles per hour.
The Up! Is a small car but it doesn’t lose any quality because of this, it is still a Volkswagen after all. It’s an iconic little car that is a welcome addition to the diverse Volkswagen range.
It has stop, start technology which will save you a lot of money in fuel. The mileage is also pretty good; it manages a very respectable 62.80 mpg. The CO2 emissions are also pretty good at just 105 g/km.
When you step inside you might expect the Up! to feel cramped, in the driver’s seat this is definitely not the case. The seating position is comfortable and easy to adjust. The up! has been ergonomically designed to make the most of the space available. Although you might struggle if you have a passenger who is over six foot, this car is not made for tall people!
The boot is also surprising spacious. At first glance it looks about the right size for a car in this class, however look closer and you will discover it is a split level boot. There is additional storage space underneath.
It’s also easy to manipulate this car to create far more space if you are going on a road trip or doing the weekly shop. The back seats can be folded down, opening up a huge 959m litres of storage. You can also fold down just one seat and still have someone sitting in the remaining back seat comfortably. Don’t rule this car out by assuming it won’t fit everything in.
The VW up! comes in three trim levels, the Take, Move and High. Volkswagen also offer two special editions, the Groove and the Rock. So there’s plenty of choice when it comes to added extras and personalisation. Entry level models of the up! are very affordable and come with an MP3 compatible CD player and an AUX-in socket so that you can listen to your mp3 player. You can choose these options if you decide to lease a Volkswagen up!
The up! also scores well on safety, it achieved a maximum 5 stars for safety in the Euro NCAP tests. Electronic stability control is fitted as standard on all models apart from the Take where you can choose it as an option. It’s also is the first car in its class to offer City emergency braking.
You can lease Volkswagen up! from just £99 a month plus VAT. That’s an excellent price for such a high quality little car.
