Volkswagen reveals Polo R WRC

The production version of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC has been revealed by the Volkswagen World Rally Championship team at its launch in Monte Carlo.
The limited edition Polo R WRC is fitted with a short-shift six-speed manual gearbox and has the same turbocharged 2.0 TSI four-cylinder petrol engine used in the Golf GTI, producing 217bhp and 258lb ft of torque. It also makes use of lightweight materials inspired by the competition Polo, giving a kerb weight of 1324kg.
This means the front-wheel drive hatch can manage 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 151mph, making it the fastest Polo ever. With performance like this even the class-leading Renaultsport Clio and the upcoming Ford Fiesta ST will be outpaced by their supermini rival. Volkswagen also claim the Polo R WRC is capable of 38mpg when on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 174g/km.
Inspirations from WRC arent just kept under the hood either, the Polo R WRC has many styling tips to rally cars too. This includes 18-inch Cagliari rally-inspired alloys and a lower front spoiler with large air inlets. The exterior also gets WRC and R badges, while the bonnet and doors also get racy grey and blue racing stripes.
Volkswagen are only building 2500 units of the Polo R WRC, all being left-hand drive. No decision has been made either on how many will be imported to the UK which will cost €33,900 (£27,320).
