New Renault Megane

Soon to be launched on the roads of Europe is the new Renault Megane, the car Renault hopes will help restore its fortunes in Europe - and that's company boss Carlos Ghosn talking. Just like the last Renault Megane, the designers have placed this latest version to take on the Ford Focus and all-new Volkswagen Golf head on. Two versions will be available to begin with: a five-door hatchback and a sportier three-door version that will no doubt be badged with the name of Renault Megane Coupe.
The stylists at Renault have given the new Renault Megane a completely differenr rear to the outgoing model which emphasised its rear with the "shaking your ass" television commercial. The new Renault Megane's interior has a fresh look about it, especially the combined digital-analogue instrument pack, and the colour and cloth trim combinations look lively too. The Megane feels roomy, airy and its makers' claim of a better quality seems on the money.
It definitely feels capable of bearing comparison with the best of its segment rivals. As well as being larger, roomier model, which uses a development of the outgoing car's thoroughly decent chassis complete with revised suspension. It's plainly bigger than the outgoing car too and offers far more space to rear-seat passengers. On the road, the new Renault Megane has a lightness about all its controls - pedals, steering and gearchange - which eludes most of its rivals. It's a pleasant, easy car to drive. Despite being larger than the old Megane, the new car is about 8kg lighter model-for-model, and allows the punchy range of engines to deliver decent performance.
The best-selling 1.5-litre dCi emits less than 120g/km of carbon dioxide. The Megane feels quite different from the segment's profusion of firmly sprung, heavy-steering German-influenced models. And that's a nice change. It isn't revolutionary but as a car that stresses comfort, in a sea of faux-sportiness, it deserves to find a band of loyal buyers. We will shortly be able to provide contract hire and leasing prices for this New Model Renault Megane.
