New Mercedes GLA: Price, Release Date and the Details!
posted on Aug 15 2013 by Alex Murray
The brand new Mercedes-Benz GLA was revealed only yesterday, making news on none other than the world famous Top Gear website. Scheduled for release in November 2013 with deliveries due in early 2014 this could be one for your Christmas wish list if youre in the market for a vehicle to rival the Audi Q3, Ranger Rover Evoque and BMW X1
Prices start from a modest 25,000 with the car available in both front and four-wheel drive variations. Continuing the new compact line the Mercedes GLA uses the final variation of the A-Class chassis and can be counted as the companies first compact SUV if you make an exception for the GLK which didnt land on UK shores.
The GLA, with its rugged appearance, is said to have been primarily made for comfort. A choice of three engines (four variations) means youll soon be able to increase that 25,000 starting price if you so choose:
- The GLA 200 will feature a 1.6 litre petrol engine with 156bhp
- The GLA 250 a turbocharged petrol putting out 211bhp
- The GLA 200 CDI a 2.1 litre diesel with 136bhp and 170bhp for the GLA 220 CDI
It's expected, by What Car, for the GLA 220 CDI to be the most popular choice of the engines. As standard all cars will come equipped with Mercedes seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox while a six-speed manual gear box will also be there as an alternative option.
As mentioned above Mercedes have prioritised comfort for the GLA range and this will be reflected in the suspension of all models in the range including the AMG Sport! However the option of a Sport setting with stiffer suspension will also be offered.
The dashboard is remarkably similar to those seen in the A, B or CLA Class Mercedes although some textures and trims have been altered. For the UK market your options when it comes to finishes will be carbon fibre (effect), piano black and metal. You'll also be assisted greatly with the myriad of electronic systems, including:
- Lane tracking
- Active parking
- Collision prevention assist
- Attention assist
- Adaptive high beam assist
- Blind spot assist
- Lane keeping assist
To name but a few!
With the front wheel drive version of the Mercedes GLA said to come in at 25,000 and the four wheel drive variation and larger engine options likely to get you closer to 28,000 the GLA is surely a viable option for those on the lookout for a highly featured compact SUV.
