The new Mercedes-AMG C63
posted on Sep 25 2014 by Gabe Grover
Yesterday (24/09/14), Mercedes announced the new AMG C63 and along with everyone else with their finger on the pulse, we’re in shock.
With some tough competition, like BMW’s 2014 M3, that has a 3L twin turbo engine and 425BHP which sends it to 60mph in 4.6 seconds. Or the Audi RS4, which contains a 444BHP and a 4.2l V8, the C63 isn’t the only one on the starting line, but who’ll finish first?
To start off, let’s run through the models that were announced. The ‘Standard’ C63, which by no means is standard, boasts the same 4.0 twin turbocharged, 476bhp V8 engine as the AMG GT. Mercedes have stated that it’ll go from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, and the estate version, which is very, very good looking, will get there 1 tenth of a second later.
Now for the shock, Mercedes are also offering a C63 ‘S’, The ‘S’ weighs just 1655kg, and offers 510 BHP, yes, FIVE HUNDRED AND TEN HORSE POWER! This gargantuan power will send it to 60 in just 4 seconds, and the estate, as before, a tenth of a second slower.
They both feature the AMG seven-speed ‘Speedshift MCT’ automatic transmission as well as four different driving modes: C (controlled efficiency), S (Sport), S+ (Sport Plus) and exclusive to the ‘S’, is R (race). As for emissions, both models emit just 192g/km of Co2 and run at 34.5MPG, which could be improved, but obviously, one does not purchase a car with 510 horse power for its economy…
Of course, as German cars do, the Mercedes is electronically limited to 155MPH, which leaves some to be desired for some. But still, the new C63 is a colossal force to be reckoned with, and for now, leaves its rivals coughing up dust.
As for the price, Mercedes have yet to announce how much the C63 will set you back, but it’s expected that the Standard’ model should cost around £60,000, about 10% more expensive that its predecessors current retail price, the ‘S’, is said to cost approximately £6,000 more than that.
As can be expected Mercedes will be offering a range of upgrades that’ll be sure to reduce the weight of your wallet.
