On this road youll drive past very deep valleys and wind your way through, finding evidence of accidents every so often at the bottom. The mono-hued and isolated scenery is reprotedly capable of endowing you with the capacity to have such visions of past drivers so concentration is essential here.

Siberian Road to Yakutsk, Russia

In this part of Russia, winter is around 10 months long, so road conditions feature heavy snow, ice and reduced visibility for many months of the year. The coldest temperature ever recorded outside the Antarctica was here, it is the largest city built on continuous permafrost. A lot of the homes are built on concrete piles due to the severely frozen ground.

James Dalton Highway, Alaska

This stretch of highway was built to supply oil facilities on the North Slope, it reaches the most northerly point of Alaska. This road is not for the faint-hearted! Car rental companies will not let you drive the car along this stretch of road because windshields and headlights are easy targets of flying rocks. With thick cloud from the road reducing visibility and deep potholes, this road is treacherous. Even worse, gas and repair stations are virtually non-existent so if youre stuck then it's game over.
