Cars To Look Out For At Shanghai Motor Show

The 16th Shanghai Motor Show is being held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai. What started off as a relatively minor show has grown into a car show that automotive experts are really taking notice of, thanks to the boom in the Chinese automotive market. Models from automotive manufacturers around the world are shown off here in an attempt to gain interest and sales on the Asian continent, as well as generate press coverage worldwide. The show takes places from today, the 22nd of April, to the 29th.

Numerous car brands made an appearance at this years show. Of course there’s the popular Chinese brands such as Jiangling and BYD Changan, but other major brands such as Volvo, Ford, Nissan, Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz were also in attendance.

The show was open to the press yesterday and it seems they weren’t disappointed with the variety of cars on show. This year, the Shanghai Motor Show has banned scantily dressed models putting all eyes on the cars. The show has cemented China’s position as the top global car market. 23 million cars were sold in China last year, that figure makes up a quarter of the global total. Therefore it comes as no surprise that there are some pretty amazing new car launches and concept cars on show in Shanghai. Here is list of some of the most highly anticipated cars:

  • Nissan Lannia

  • Qiantu K50 Event

  • Honda Concept D

  • Volkswagen XL Sport

  • Peugeot 308 R HYbrid

  • BMW X5 xDrive40e

  • Brabus Startech Range Rover

  • Volkswagen C Coupe GTE

  • Volvo XC90 Excellence

Here are some of the cars we are most excited about from the Shanghai Motor Show.

Mercedes sent out a message at the Shanghai Motor Show, making it clear they are hoping to compete with BMW in the premium SUV market. They put their brand new GLC Coupe on show in Shanghai. The GLC is expected to go on sale next year and will cost around £35,000.  It received a very warm response at the show, with plenty of journalists showing interest in this impressive new Mercedes which is expect to take on the BMW X4.

Gorden Wagener, Merc's design chief, commented: 'With its modern and sensual design idiom, the Concept GLC Coupe gives a foretaste of future SUV models from Mercedes-Benz. At the same time, it embraces the typical values of tradition-steeped Mercedes-Benz coupes.'
