Feast your eyes on the all new Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang. It was recently unveiled at the 2014 LA motor show and given a hero's welcome. For a full round up of the 2014 LA Motor show read carmagazine's blog here.
The original Ford Shelby was created in 1965 by Carroll Shelby and was seen as the ultimate American sports car. Back then it had 306bhp, the 2015 generation is far superior with a mind blowing 500bhp. It’s faster, more powerful, more aggressive and sounds insane. Ford Mustang won’t be disappointed with this new addition to the family.
The new model has been created partially to celebrate 50 years of production. ‘The 2015 is the most important Mustang in many years. It's a major transition.’ said Matt Anderson, transportation curator at the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn.
Since it’s launch in 1964, over 9.2 million Mustangs have been sold. It’s a car that is much loved in America, there are rumours a few Mustangs may come to Europe, but the chances of the GT350 being sold in the UK are extremely slim. This new model blows it’s competitors, the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro out of the water.
It has an extremely powerful 5.3 litre V8 engine and 540Nm of torque, making it the fastest car in the range. ‘Everything we changed on the GT350 is purely function-driven design with the goal of improving the overall performance of the car,’ said Chris Svensson, the Mustang’s designer.
The new model also has 19 inch alloys, a six-speed manual transmission gearbox and a high-revving capability. It’s a car that people will stop and stare at so if you are planning on owning one be prepared to get a lot of attention.
Ford Mustang's have always been built for the race track. Like others before it, the new GT350 performs like a dream on the race track, but it is also legal to drive on the roads. Ford have promised that the latest installment will remain true to it’s roots. They also claim it has the ‘most track-credible brake system ever'.
The interior is cockpit inspired and has impressive Recaro sport seats. The distinctive carbon-fibre composite grille looks great and the bonnet is 2 inches lower than previous Mustangs. The drive is improved by adaptive cruise control and stability and traction control.
If the standard model doesn’t appeal to you and you want to go one step further and drive with your roof down then luckily for you there is also a convertible option. The Ford Shelby GT350 may not be available in the UK, but thankfully plenty of other Ford models are. Click here to see our latest Ford leasing offers.
