Three year wait for diesel BMW M5 in the UK market
posted on Oct 30 2012 by Sam Jones
British drivers will be unable to get hold of a right-hand drive tri-turbo 3.0-litre diesel BMW M5 until the introduction of the next generation 5-series in around three years time.
Currently the M550d is available with a 376bhp, 546lb ft 3.0-litre tri-turbo diesel engine in left-hand drive markets only. This is because the current right-hand drive 5-series cannot be mated to all-wheel drive running gear needed for the diesel engine.
However, the chances of the first ever diesel M5 being launched have been improved as the next generation 5-series will be available in right-hand drive with four-wheel drive.
The next generation of BMW 6 and 7series will also use the same platform meaning we can expect both to be available with the tri-turbo diesel.
