BMW planning new 300bhp 1-series saloon M model

The new BMW 1-series saloon will be given a range topping M model to rival the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG and Audi S3 saloon. Its anticipated it will have a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that will develop a minimum of 300bhp.
The financial and critical achievements of the limited edition 1-series M Coupe and the 315bhp six-cylinder M135i hatch have acted as inspiration for the high performance compact saloon. Important high-volume markets, such as North America and China, are due to see a growing demand for this type of car. BMW are eager to act fast and capitalise on this, especially as the CLA45 AMG and S3 saloon are already set to be released by the end of 2013.
However, development is still in the early planning stages with BMW still considering rear wheel and front wheel drive platforms. With BMW already facing a busy period of model expansion, the chances of the 1-series saloon M model arriving in the UK before the end of 2015 are doubtful.
