Sources close to Audi are saying the company is gearing up to unveil the Q2 SUV, or at least its concept preview, at this years Paris Motor Show.
Based on the A1 supermini, the Q2 should offer drivers the higher driving position of an SUV along with tougher looks, resembling something between the A1 and the bigger Q3 SUV. However the Q2 will still maintain the maneuverability and small size of the supermini.
It is planned that the Q2 will sister the Volkswagen Cross Polo, a heftier edition of the normal hatchback that is not found in UK stores. The chassis which the two cars share can accommodate four-wheel drive, meaning the Q2 can be called a quattro.
Present A1 engines, such as the 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrols and the 1.6-litre TDI diesel, should be available in the Q2. There is also the possibility of a 2.0-litre TDI diesel being included in the line-up but this depends on whether or not Audi have phased this engine out of their small car line-up by the time of the Q2s arrival, which is expected to be the end of 2013.
