McLaren have never been a company to produce mediocre cars, so it should have come as no surprise when they unveiled the new 1 million Hypercar P1, and yet it was an enormous surprise. Once again McLaren have surpassed themselves in design and technology and introduced a car that defies motoring.
Powered by a hybrid power-train which utilises combined efforts of a highly efficient 3.8 litre twin turbo V8 petrol engine, the P1 can go from 0-62mph in an astonishing 2.8 seconds. Wow.
The top speed for this beast of a car is electronically limited to 217 mph; and with a limit this eye wateringly high you cant cap your driving to the UKs measly 70mph get out on to the tracks and really feel the power of the P1.
There are just 375 of the P1 Hypercar being built in the brands Woking facility, and theyve been putting them through the tests out in both the Arctic and California- specifically Nevada and Arizona. In the US theyve put the car under extreme heat, reaching 116f/52c making it the ultimate test of endurance.
McLaren have also used the tests performed in the US to take some amazing images of their new car, and placed a carbon black version of the car into Death Valley, instantly creating an iconic image. The P1 is part of McLarens 50 year anniversary celebrations.
