Maserati have revealed the full technical details for the new Quattroporte, one of the most eagerly awaited cars of 2013.
Included in the details are the specifications of the smaller 3.0-litre V6 engine, which uses the same ignition system, valve gear, twin turbos, bore and combustion chamber design as the bigger V8 Quattroporte. However, it is the smaller V6 that manages to produce the higher specific torque output, with 407lb ft from 1500rpm. This is 500rpm lower than the V8 takes to deliver its full amount of torque. The V6 will also produce 416bhp at 5500rpm while the V8 will produce 523bhp at 6800rpm.
The rear-wheel drive V6 is also 40kg lighter than the V8 Quattroporte. However the four-wheel drive version, which is only available with the V6, adds another 70kg to the weight. Despite this, the four-wheel drive version can manage 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, thats 0.2 seconds quicker than the rear-wheel drive V6 Quattroporte. CO2 emissions between the two are also very similar, with the four-wheel drive V6 emitting 246g/km compared to the rear-drives 244g/km.
Maserati also revealed that all new Quattroportes will have 20-inch wheels as standard, but will also be available with 19, 20 or 21-inch rims. The tyres which come with the car will depend upon what size rims the buyer decides to get.
The four-wheel drive V6 Maserati Quattroporte will only be in left-hand drive but both rear-wheel versions will go on sale in the UK in June 2013 in right-hand drive.
